R R Nacy of the Missouri State Salvage Committee urges urgent tin salvage as complacency undermines war production. He notes 28,000 essential workers in St. Louis area plants quit, and overall munitions output and schedules lag, calling for renewed public effort to meet material demands.

Sharp cuts in 1946 war spending planned in budget
Washington officials disclosed a Roosevelt 1946 budget forecast totaling about 78.8 billion in war expenses, nearly 10 billion less than 1945, with the overall budget near 90 billion. Deficit is placed around 42.8 billion if revenues stay flat. Tax changes unlikely. War cutbacks attributed to shipbuilding declines and winding supply lines, offset by GI benefits, mustering out costs, and debt interest.
