Wyatt Colony Negro School Proposal Rejected by Colony Managers
Wyatt school district officials countered a St. Louis colony manager offer to rent a one room building for Negro children at $30 a month while the housing corporation would pay fuel. The colony managers had requested the district provide housing and had previously rejected the district’s plan to use the current building. The Watt district previously could not integrate or build new facilities, leaving 113 seats unused and at times only 71 pupils in attendance.

Seek Quartet Who Beat and Robbed New Madrid Man
Walter Richardson of Marston was beaten and robbed of $10,000 in cash by four men who forced him to open safes, then locked him in the trunk of his own car seven miles north of New Madrid. Officials say Richardson was released after officers tracked the green Cadillac. He suffered severe injuries and threats to kill were reported.

Pair Arrested for Theft From Parked Car
Two Smith addition men were arrested by Chief Harold Wallace after a late night theft from a parked car in Sikeston on Highway 60 West. The owner, Guy Kent of Tiptonville Tennessee, reported $300 worth of goods taken including two traveling bags, reading glasses and many calling cards. The suspects confessed, and one brother showed police the spot where a bag was buried. the other brother was later arrested. They allegedly moved contents into a larger bag and burned the original.

Last Rites Today for Soldier Killed in France
Last rites for Sergeant Harrie E. Burch were held at the Trotter church near Essex conducted by Rev. L. Griffey. Interment was planned at Memorial Park cemetery in Sikeston with military honors. Burch, born January 20, 1913 at Matthews, died from jeep injuries in France near Reims after entering service January 20, 1941. He was survived by his wife, daughter Greta, his parents Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Burch near Essex, six brothers and three sisters.

An auction of hospital furniture and desks was held at Sikeston General Hospital at 1:00 pm before turning the building over to new owner Mrs H J Welsh. Mrs Marvin Carroll supervised cleaning and proposed selling unopened medicines to wholesale drug concerns. city council approved. Representative-elect C E Felker attended the Democratic Victory dinner in Jefferson City Monday.

Good Seed Show Program Set At Sikeston Armory
A detailed program for the Good Seed Short Course and Annual Missouri State Good Seed Show is announced for January 19 and 20 at Sikeston Armory. Funeral Held Here Saturday for Youth Killed in World War II
Private John Rodes Roth of Sikeston and Cape Girardeau was killed in action in Neustadt Saar Valley Germany March 21 1945 His body will be brought home for burial in Sikeston City Cemetery Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. at the grave with Dr Robert C Holliday leading The young soldier belonged to the 328th Infantry 26th Division Third Army He was 22 and is survived by his parents a sister and several relatives from Missouri and St Louis He entered service in 1943 trained at Fort Knox and universities and was wounded near Nancy France in 1944 He attended Sikeston public schools Southeast Missouri State College and was active in the Mark Twain Society and Alpha Phi Omega.

Four Men Fined In Lengthy Magistrate Court Session
Four men were fined yesterday in Magistrate's Court by Judge M E Montgomery for offenses at Alberson's Top Hat on Highway 61 North two were fined for disturbing the peace and two for beating Hernandez a Mexican. Ernest Chessman and Floyd Dickson pleaded guilty and were fined 10 and costs each Frank Garcia and Diego Ramirez Mexicans were fined 10 and costs each for the beating of Hernandez at the Top Hat on December 12 Agapito Romero acted as interpreter. Clyde Owen Householder was fined 25 and sentenced to 90 days in county jail for careless reckless driving while intoxicated on Highway 60. He sought parole but the judge refused. Jim Douglas 62 received six months for assaulting a woman December 12 in her home. Williams was jailed 30 days for warrancy and vagrancy.

Three Deer Fell to Sikeston Hunters
Dozens of Sikeston hunters in the Ozarks resulted in only three recorded kills during last week’s deer hunt. Charles Moose, near Van Buren, took a four point buck. Charles Eakers, near Sullivan, a nine point. John MecMullin, near his lakeside cabin, a buck after fishing. Other locals from Chaffee, Oran, and New Hamburg also reported kills.
