District Scouters Plan Cattleman's Brawl at Armory
Twenty five Boy Scout leaders and executives from the Southeast Missouri Council met at a Christian church to discuss the present program and plan a Western style Cattleman's Brawl at the Sikeston Armory January 11. The event aims to boost area registration by December 31 to 3756 youths and will feature steaks and beans. Roy Ward outlined next year’s $49 740 budget and January advance gifts, with a general drive during Boy Scout Week in February. Body of Cecil Williams Returned for Burial
The body of Tech Sergeant Cecil E. Williams age 26 killed in France July 8 1945 was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were at Albritton Funeral Home with Rev E D Owen officiating. Survivors include a sister Mrs Carl Newland and two brothers Otis Williams and Jack Williams.

Sikeston Soldier’s Body Arrives in U S
The body of Pvt. Ardell Vanover, son of Mr and Mrs Rich ard Vanover of Sikeston, arrived in the United States from Europe aboard the Army Transport Lieutenant James E Robinson. He will go to Memphis before reburial in Sikeston. Vanover enlisted April 27 1944, died December 22 in a hospital in England after being wounded in Germany. Prior to the army he worked for Potashnick Truck Lines Scott County Milling and as an auto mechanic for his brother. He attended Sikeston public schools. Damages Awarded in California Couple Crash Suit
A Circuit Court jury in Benton awarded Walter and Thelma Dame twelve thousand dollars after a January 14 highway collision near Bertan. Walter Dame received nine thousand. Thelma Dame three thousand for injuries from a crash involving a Foster Matthews Grocery truck driven by Andrew Burns.

Deer Tag Sales Near Allotment in Scott County
Scott County reports 187 deer tags sold to date for the hunting season. Clerk H C Watkins notes 61 tags sold at Sikes Hardware in Sikeston last Saturday. An allotment of 200 tags was issued to the county, while Mississippi County received 60. With many hunters needing licenses, Watkins continues selling tags to Mississippi County residents. He cites only four deer bagged by Wednesday afternoon. two Sikeston residents and two New Hamburg men each reportedly killed a deer. The season opened Monday and runs through tomorrow, five days total.

Murder conviction settles four year Scott County case
Gobel Owings was found guilty of the October 5 1944 killing of Mrs Armetta Gray Nichols at a rural tavern west of Sikeston. He received a 30 year sentence in the Missouri Penitentiary and is jailed in Benton. The trial followed years of postponed hearings amid witness illness and locational difficulties.
