Saturday’s dedication of the St Francis Xavier Catholic church at Front and Stoddard. Most Reverend C H Winkelmann officiated with former pastors Rev Thos R Woods and Rev George M Ryan present and Rev Ryan delivering the sermon. A large multi-priest ceremony followed by a parish dinner in the remodeled recreation hall and re painted exterior marking the building’s use since July.

Leon J. Roberts known as Art Mix was arrested by Arkansas officers on bigamy charges. He was sought in Little Rock. He appeared last month at the Rex Theatre in Sikeston where a woman claiming to be one of his four wives said Mix used a false name Pal and that she is financially interested in all his possessions.

St Louis Boys Held In Automobile Theft
Two youths from East St Louis were taken into custody at Portageville on Sunday for questioning regarding a new delivery truck theft in St Louis. The truck was found abandoned a mile south of Portageville. Albert Trusty, 17, and Ed Rettig, 18, were cited by Marshal Charlies LaFont and State Trooper Melvin Dace and sent back to face charges in St Louis. Trusty is reportedly on parole.

The Scott county circuit court nearly closed its November term and schedules sessions for December 19 and December 30 to clear loose ends. The jury was dismissed until January 23, 1939. Four Sikestonians and Mrs. C. D. Matthews Jr., Mrs. E. C. Matthews and children Olga and Edward applied for passports, per circuit clerk Leo J. Pfefferkorn. The party plans a world cruise in early 1939.

REA Wiring Delays For Rural Electric Service
Wiring of homes for REA electricity faces delays due to a lack of qualified contractors. Two cases accusing County Collector C E Felker of Scott County of speculating in county warrants have been reset to the February term. The Mississippi Cape Girardeau circuit court hearing was postponed after affidavits led to Judge Frank Kelly’s disqualification. A special judge will hear the trials in February. this marks the second disqualification by Felker amid 56 pending cases.

Public Library Dedicated in Sikeston Dedication Evening
The Sikeston public library was dedicated Monday night with Dr W W Parker president of Cape Girardeau State Teachers College delivering the dedicatory address. He urged adult education through reading and said the library should entertain and enrich life while keeping a free people free. The program included greetings from officials and a history of the library from 1891 to the present, noting gradual growth and community support through the Woman's Club and local leaders.
