New Cadets Begin Training at Air School
The 86 member new flying cadet class started a ten week training at the air school here on Monday. Only two from Missouri. Richard Donnewald from Maplewood came from Cape Girardeau after a four year program at State Teachers College. The other Missourian is Frank A. Riley of St Louis. The remainder include 11 states with 34 from Wisconsin and 18 from Texas. Construction progresses on two extra dormitories and the third barracks as hangar No. 2 nears completion with minor heating units to be installed.

Scott County Draft Board Mailed Questionnaires to 100 Men
Scott county draft board mailed questionnaires to one hundred men with registration numbers 1 through 100 at Benton this week. Beginning Monday the board will issue questionnaires at 25 per day until five to six hundred may have received them, to ensure enough Class 1 volunteers. To date the county has a quota of 141 by June 1 next year, likely filled by volunteers. Of the first five registrants all volunteers, three were rejected at Jefferson Barracks. two passed. Replacements will be sent next week. Class 1 volunteers undergo preliminary checks locally then travel to St. Louis for further tests. The county has 22 volunteers, with only six or seven likely to pass. New assistants to the legal advisory board were appointed, and the legal advisory board comprises Dempster, Kirk, and Olver.

Christmas Bonus for International Shoe Workers
About 500 to 600 workers at the International Shoe Company will receive extra checks equal to a week’s pay. The bonus, announced by W L Huters, applies to employees with continuous service from January 1 to November 30, 1940, at the Sikeston plant and other district locations. The firm, with 30,000 workers overall, estimates total extra pay around 600000 dollars, with Sikeston workers receiving about 12000 dollars in aggregate.

Two New Ford Trucks Bought for City Use

Grocery Stores Robbed Last Night
Putnam's Market on Greer avenue suffered its second burglary in ten days as suspects entered by a broken rear window and stole about six or seven dollars from the cash register and two five dollar fruit cakes along with candy bars. Saveway Grocery near Putnam's was also robbed last night by the same burglars, with about twenty dollars taken from the register and cigarettes among the missing items.
