The 1940 41 Sikeston public school term starts with enrollment for upper classes at Sikeston High School. Freshmen enroll Monday afternoon and grade school pupils report at 8:30 Monday morning. Furniture for New Hospital Opens for Sikeston
Sikeston's new hospital building will be ready to receive furniture and equipment tomorrow, with exterior painting completed today and interior finish near done. The hospital, open to all residents, plans to begin operations when the Missouri School of Aeronautics starts Sept. 14, with over twenty beds and modern operating facilities expected.

Air School Inspected by Army Air Corps Leader
Brig Gen Fickel assistant chief of the US Army Air Corps arrived with a four man staff to inspect Missouri Institute of Aeronautics facilities near Sikeston. He piloted a Douglas B 18 bomber and stayed about thirty minutes as operations prepare for flying starting Sept 16 with ten ships on site and completion of heating and electrical checks ongoing.

Parochial School To Open Monday In Sikeston
Opening date for the St. Francis Xavier Parochial School is set for Monday September 2. Teachers have been at the Sisters of Mercy headquarters in Webster Groves during the summer and are expected in Sikeston today. Sister Mary Ascentia will lead the culinary department. Other teachers include Sister Mary Florence Sister Mary Peter and Sister Mary Cleophus.

Charles Walter Gentry nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Gentry died Sunday in a Cape Girardeau hospital from a stomach ailment. Body returned to New Madrid for funeral services conducted there Monday.

W R Binford Harvests First Open Cotton Boll Near Matthews
W R Binford, a Stallcup land farmer near Matthews, sent the first open boll to The Herald, noting his crop usually leads the gin season and that picking may start two to three weeks later this year.
