The Sikeston District of the Southeast Missouri Area Council will elect officers at a September 20 barbecue at the airport Scout building. About 75 leaders and their wives will attend to choose a chairman, vice chairman, and commissioner, with Buford Baber the current chairman. A fall council meeting for nearly 300 Scout leaders will be held in Sikeston in mid October, with speaker arrangements underway.

Leonard McMullin 57 Sikeston business owner and landholder died at home after illness. Services held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at 655 Park Avenue with Rev. M G Joyce officiating. Burial in Sikeston City Cemetery beside his wife. Survived by two sons John L. McMullin and Charles J. McMullin, a grandson John Leonard McMullin III, a brother Marvin McMullin, two aunts, and other relatives. Born October 5 1890 he founded Farmers Grain and Seed Co and earlier ran Sikeston News Service. An avid pilot, he held the state’s first private pilot license and once flew hogs to St Louis. He helped organize Sikeston High’s first football team in 1908 and later attended Barnes College. Former Scott County official.
