Funeral Services Held Here for Col. Charles Lyle Malone
Funeral rites for Col. Charles Lyle Malone who died last Sunday night at St. John's Hospital in St. Louis were held yesterday at 9:00 a.m. from Francis Xavier Catholic church with Rev. Thos Woods and Rev. Towle officiating. Malone, born June 7, 1891, led a long Army career, earning the Legion of Merit and retiring in 1946 as a colonel. He was a Sikeston resident active in local civic groups and business. Survivors include his widow Ida R. Malone and three brothers and a sister. burial was in Memorial Park cemetery with Welsh funeral Home in charge.

At a Scott County Farm Bureau meeting in Benton last night plans were set for the annual membership drive Sept 22 29. Captains were chosen to lead drives in each township and six reps were named for the district advisory meeting in Cape Girardeau on Sept 8. The Sikeston magistrate docket was light with only two fines. Berlin L Batchelor was fined 25 dollars and costs and sentenced to 900 days in jail for careless and reckless driving while intoxicated. County draft drives registrations beyond three hundred in Scott
Scott county records show over 300 men registered for the peacetime draft during the first four days of a 20 day schedule. Registrants aged 25 and 24 lined up at the county courthouse as chief clerk Marshall Myers and volunteers processed them.

Workers returned to the new gas compression plant south of Oran after a stoppage prompted by unions. Brown & Root Inc. of Houston led construction. A temporary injunction by Circuit Judge Randolph Weber halted interference, with workers back in two days after service. The plant will house 14 1000-hp compressors to boost Big Inch and Little Inch gas flow, aiming for over 500 million cubic feet daily.

X Ray Survey Finds 59 Tuberculosis Cases in Scott County
Mrs Doroty Garnett district health nurse told the Scott County advisory health council that 59 cases were diagnosed from a June mass survey and 10 075 residents were examined by the mobile X ray unit Of these 9 190 X rays were readable and 38 692 lungs showed no symptoms of tuberculosis The nurse assists the 59 affected persons with health practices and medical care recommendations
