The new Planters Bank in Sikerton will open Monday August 29. Located at 100 East Malone avenue the bank features 500000 capital, drive in banking, savings accounts with FDIC insurance up to 10000, banking by mail, safety deposit boxes, night depository and a Christmas club. Hours are 9 am to 3 pm six days weekly. a formal opening is set for September 24.
Graveside services were conducted Wednesday for infant Dennis Lee Posed at Oak Grove Cemetery. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs Walter Powell and grandmothers Mrs Nettie Harris and Mrs Rosse Johnson. The protected Great Smoky Mountains area hosts diverse wildlife including fur bearing species, 200 birds, 34 reptiles, 36 amphibians and various fish.
James William Baker known as Uncle Billy, 89, of North West St, was struck by a car on Highway 60 near Hands Street and died at Missouri Delta Community Hospital. He was born January 1, 1866, survived by wife Mary and multiple children, with services set at Welsh Funeral Home Thursday. Burial at Dogwood Cemetery near Bertrand.
The Missouri Cotton Producers Association calls an all day Detta Research Clinic on Monday August 29 at the Rustic Rock Inn Sikeston Missouri chaired by Doc Haggard. An extra 51275 for cotton research will be discussed along with topics like breeding plant diseases insect control and crop fertilization. The session remains open to all crops grown in the Delia area beyond cotton.

Patrol Sergeant George Montgomery of the State Highway Patrol spoke to the Kiwanis Club on Problems of Law Enforcement. Miss Estelle Query died Tuesday at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born in 1871 at Cape Counts. Survived by brother Henry of Louisiana and several nieces and nephews. Body in state at Welch Funeral Home. Services at 2 pm Thursday at May Methodist Church with Rev E C Mount officiating. Burial in Friend Cemetery, Oran.
Civil Defense representatives from Sikeston Perryville and Cape Girardeau plan a two day school at the Cape Girardeau VFW building to organize units in other communities. Confirmation will follow. The Auxiliary plans a first aid course after the Jaycee Rodeo season.
Superintendent Lynn Twitty urges voters to approve Referendum No. 1 a 2 cent per pack cigarette tax citing state aid limits and potential to raise about 1000000 for a new high school. He argues the tax would expand bonding capacity, boost the building fund and help offset rising education costs amid a growing pupil population and teacher shortages.
Bozo the Clown plans visits to southeast Missouri towns to publicize the upcoming third annual Jaycee Boothee Rodeo. He will be accompanied by a Jaycee and travel at fairs and local events. Jaycees meet Friday to finish seating work at the ballpark.
The Sikeston Public Library Board asks the City Council to cut the library tax from two mills to one and a half. W. L. Haters was elected president to succeed Lacy E. Avard Jr., with Mrs. Robert A. Dempster reelected vice president. The board list includes Mrs. Irma Aven, Mrs. Roger Bales, W. J. Hates, H. Gatwoaud Jr., and Tharon E. Stallings.
