Linus Bartels of Cape Girardeau was chosen lieutenant governor of Kiwanis District VI at a family barbecue and merion feast on the Kirk lawn. Bartels has served as district secretary and Cape Girardeau club president and will assume office January 1.
The Jaycees announce Bozo the Clown will headline pre rodeo events ahead of the third annual Jaycees Rodeo opening Sept 2. Bozo will entertain crowds thirty minutes before each show and appear in the Friday parade, boosting area publicity with personal appearances. Alton McCann elected treasurer. Laddie Shafter to transfer.

Robert Foster, 38, Sikeston businessman and former associate of L. V. Jim mie Butler, faces questions amid a federal indictment against Butler for obtaining about four million dollars by false pretenses. Foster tells the Standard that a court-ordered audit of the Missouri firms Black Gin Company Butler Foster Milling Company and Butler Foster Farms will show no mismanagement, and that all funds will be accounted for. He explains the $70,000 figure reflects life insurance payouts and drawing-account advances, not personal debt to Butler, and says further explanation will come with the audit and his vindication by counsel.

Mrs Val Sharp hosted thirty one members of the Wo men’s Golf Association Ang 2 at the Country Chair for a regular meeting. Old was named Girl of the Month for the greatest improvement in July’s play.

Delta Community Hospital reported three emergencies overnight arising from a corn knife a trip hammer and a gun. Cave Welker 16 of Matthews cut his foot with a cane knife and W O Chappell of Sikeston lost finger nails when a trip hammer slipped. Both were treated and dismissed. Eugene Williams 15 a Negro of Catron was admitted for treatment of a gunshot wound and his condition is listed as satisfactory.
The State Highway Commission invites bids by Aug 25 for improving 99.6 miles of Missouri state highways across 1417 counties at an estimated total cost of 3.1 million dollars. Major system work in Clay and St Louis counties covers about 46 miles with roughly 2.1 million dollar share, while supplementary work in 13 counties adds about 95 miles and 1.0 million dollars.
Workmen began on the Matthews elementary school site Monday clearing the area and erecting work buildings as construction progresses on the new school project.

The coroner found a paper in the deceased’s pocket naming Mise Clara Heaver shot and, upon contact, learned the deceased was Sarber’s sister’s relative. The deceased was identified as Carl Ha Sarber, 77, of Or'u ao, ry. The investigation continues.

A confusing driving incident on Route 60 led to a two car collision injuring three people. Medics transported victims to a local hospital while police investigated the chain of events and road conditions at the scene.
