Shrine Hospital Benefit Game Nets $1000 for St Louis
The Sikeston Stags and Cape Girardeau Capadas played a baseball fundraiser at VFW Stadium producing $1000 net for Shriner's Hospital in St Louis. Capadas won 3 to 1. 300 prizes were awarded to attendees. Organized by Southeast Missouri Shrine Club with VFW support, the event cleared $1600 after expenses for the hospital.

The Scott County Red Cross executive board met at 4 pm in the Buckner Ragsdale building with Charles H. Boyce presiding. New board members include R S Peterman Chaffee Mrs H M Kendig and others. The group planned polio unit staffing with Delta Community Hospital and National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and discussed joining the National Blood Program. The serial morning program on KSIM will continue with true Red Cross experiences. Reverend Talbert was named chairman to revise by laws and Mrs Sidwell leads a committee to arrange a Cotton Carnival float. Two reps were set for the National First Aid School in Kaiser Missouri. Miss Pergy Donnell remains executive secretary.

Also advancing were Henry C. Sten Rolla and Roy N. Coats West Plains to first lieutenant Edward C. Defield Charleston from master sergeant to second lieutenant, Rev. John H. Q. Westhues Poplar Bluff to first lieutenant chaplain, and Rev. Conley J. Scott Charleston as Protestant chaplain captain.

The Missouri Highway Commission announced 38 new highway contracts in Jefferson City. Division 10 includes five projects headlined by a 3.1 mile grading and bridges plan on Highway 61 south of Cape Girardeau with a $876,947 bid to R. B. Potashnick of Cape Girardeau. Githens Company and Paul Montgomery of Poplar Bluff won for Grade and surfacing 3.3 miles on Route N with four drainage-ditch bridges for $133,138.

Balanced Farming Day District August 24
District wide Balanced Farming Action Day will be held in Mississippi county on August 24 with hundreds of farmers and wives expected from Scott county. Demonstrations begin about 10 am at J. B. Solicitor Fined for Fleecing the Public

Pair charged with automobile stealing in Arkansas and Texas
George William Albright aged 27 percent and Billy Bolden 17 of Camp Arkansas are held in Scott county jail Benton on charges of stealing a car in Dallas Texas August 1 with Bolden charged as accomplice. Trooper Curtis Anderson detained them about 5 pm Tuesday. The car a 1948 De Soto club coupe had been driven through Louisiana and Missouri before arrest.
