Portageville Killers Admit Murder Confession
Portageville Missouri town reports Robert Berry 25 and Oval Underwood 21 confessed Monday night to killing Mrs. J. W. Hendrix the Portageville widow. Underwood admits shooting while Berry aided. They hired a taxi to her home about 1 20 pm, then returned about 2 pm after attempting robbery killed her with a blunt instrument and possible strangulation. Body found by Mrs. John Faris. Funeral held at Portageville Baptist Church. Suspect hometowns listed as Indianapolis and Hayti. Investigation ongoing.

The R B Potashniek Construction Company of Cape Girardeau was the low bidder on a road project with an extra lane for Highway 61 south of the city.
