Killing at Hachita ends with deputy sheriff in deadly duel
In Hachita a deputy sheriff R J McCart killed James Donovan known as Big Jim after Donovan fired at him with a Winchester and McCart returned fire. The coroner ruled the shooting justified. Donovan, about 32, resident of Grant county, had recently drifted between work with Victoria Land and Cattle Company and other employments. His body was buried at Hachita.
