Deep Rock Thompson No. 1 shows small oil find near Sidney

Deep Rock Oil Co reports four feet of oil saturated sand in the Thompson No. 1 well west of Sidney with 180 feet of fluid in a drill stem test, including 150 feet oil and 30 feet oil cut mud. Gas was observed. results suggest potential near-term production though core water complicates testing. Nearby wells and the Beyer No. 1 offset hint at an emerging Cheyenne County oil area.

Lincoln Transferred To Minnesota Store

Ralph Lincoln, manager of the Montgomery Ward store since February 1950, is transferred to Montevideo Minnesota to manage a larger store. He received short notice and will report October 1. The Lincoln family plans to move from Sidney this morning. Lincoln is a former Hastings assistant manager and Rotary Club member.

Logan Gurley Line Progress Near Sterling

About seven miles of the 53 mile Logan Gurley pipeline from Logan County to Gurley had been welded by Friday. The Fulton Construction Co is building the line with Toronto inspectors on site. A $2,000,000 main line and a $100,000 pump plant will connect Logan County Oil producers to a nationwide distribution system.

Bible Dedication Services At High School Auditorium

Sidney joins 3,000 communities nationwide in dedicating the revised Standard Bible. The Sidney Ministerial Association sponsors the service at the high school auditorium tonight at eight. Potter School Bond Vote Today in No. 9 District

Voters in School District No. 9 cast ballots today on a 380000 bond issue for a new Potter school building. Backers say enrollment has surged since rural districts merged with No. 9, and current facilities are overcrowded and inadequate. The district covers about 178 square miles including Potter village and surrounding areas. Voting runs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.

Polio Cases Grow in Cheyenne County

Three more Cheyenne County residents were rushed to Scottsbluff over the weekend. Richard G. Ayala, 22, was noted as very mildly affected. Sidney officer Bill Rezak, 29, hospitalized with a suspected polio case awaiting spinal tap. Larry Golden, 13, marked as a possible victim and sent to Scotts Bluff.

Attorneys to Contest Griffith Death Verdict

Attorneys for Hugh Griffith said Saturday they will seek a new trial for the condemned wife slayer who received the death penalty last Thursday. They plan to appeal to the Nebraska Supreme Court if the motion fails. Judge John Kuns will rule on the request. The defense calls the verdict harsh and largely circumstantial. Griffith, an oil-field worker, killed his wife Anna with a shotgun in June at her parents home in Kimball County.
