Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs Louis Wasem 83 longtime Cheyenne County resident who died Tuesday at a local hospital. The Holy Trinity Lutheran Church served as the setting with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The Gehrig Funeral Home directed arrangements. Mrs Wasem an early member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is survived by nieces and nephews including Phillip F Rihn of Plattsmouth and his wife. Pallbearers were Theodore Brauer George C Thomp son William Riggs Marius Christensen Nate Mick and M Osborn.

Steer Killed In Collision On Highway 19
A 900 pound Hereford steer was killed Thursday evening around 6:25 on Highway 19, 3.7 miles southwest of Sidney, after being struck by a 1951 Plymouth Belvedere driven by Elmer R. Carsrud, 39, of Sidney. Carsrud was southbound and had just rounded a curve when he hit the steer. $600 damage to the car and $160 steer value. The steer was owned by Carl Olsen.

Depot cuts advance to three months at SOD
Sioux Ordnance Depot chief Dearing spoke for Col. Smoak to the Chamber of Commerce about accelerated personnel reductions. The plan trims about 160 Ordnance workers within 30 to 45 days, on top of 92 already cut, with total reductions near 302 by March.
