West Gurley Oil Discovery Likely in Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County may host a new oil field about twelve miles west of Gurley after Tom Jordan Jr and Toltek Drilling Co ran production casing at No. 1 Mable Doran in the Clara Field. About six feet of promising sand saturation was found and swab tests will follow. A second new producer in Nebraska, No. 12 Hinshaw in Banner County, has yielded a second straight drilling success. Two Cheyenne County wells are planned: Floyd Greenstreet’s No. 1 Messner near the Clara Field and Burk and Burns and Braden and Gear’s No. 1 Anderson S in the Flon Field.

Great Deal Needed To Sway Bureau Of Public Roads
M F Maloney deputy director of the Bureau of Public Roads said in Sidney that no new argument changes the bureau’s stance on the Big Springs Interstate junction. He noted the preferred plan would use less right of way, though cost would be similar, and he heard nothing new that could alter the design. Stan Larabee of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce announced plans for a resolution opposing the bureau’s favored route and said copies would be sent to Governor Mann, the Nebraska Highway Department, and senators Hruska and Curtis.

The Prairie Schooners Square Dance Club hosts a two day fall festival in the Elks auditorium on Saturday and Sunday Sept 30 and Oct 1. Frontier expands Sidney flights as September demand grows
Frontier Airlines reports 205 passengers in September after new schedules began September 1. Jet-Prop service Denver to Sidney through North Platte Grand Island Columbus was added, with two daily flights and a north-south leg to Rapid City. The August runway improvements funded a 400000 program enabling the Jet-Prop service. Civil Aeronautics Board minimums of 150 boardings per month may be met with the new operations, weather permitting. Local interest asks for a Sidney Lincoln link, but no timetable changes are planned yet pending test of the current schedule.
