Municipalities Tighten Rules After League Vote
KEARNEY The League of Nebraska Municipalities amended its constitution to require a majority vote of members before any action is taken in the league's name. The mail-poll system gives members 15 days to reply, the executive secretary conducting the survey. New officers include Ray Lundy as president and A. T. Larson as first vice president, with Lincoln chosen to host the 1963 conference in September.

A large delegation from Sidney attended the VEW District II session in Kimball on Sunday. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Colling, Mr. and Mrs. Whitaker, Mr. and Mrs. Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades, several auxiliary members, and district officers presiding were Mrs. Brown and Elmer Rasmussen. Potter Man Hurt In One Car Accident
Teston Smith of Potter is reported in satisfactory condition at Memorial Hospital after a neck injury from a one car crash at 5 15 p m Sunday on a county road eight and a half miles northeast of Potter. Trooper John Oliver said the 1954 Chevrolet left the road on a curve, swerved into a ditch, and was a total loss.

Dwight Grassle Dies Friday Night Depot Employee
Dwight Michael Grassle 57 died suddenly Friday night at his home of a heart attack. He had been an employee at Sioux Army Depot for 17 years. Funeral services were held this morning at St Patrick's Church with Rev Vincent Pelster officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Denver, Tuesday. He was born March 17, 1905 in Greeley Colorado, married to Kathryn L Deefee, and survived by his wife, one son, five grandchildren, and a brother.

Driver Hurt In Accident Charges Filed
Oscar J. Volner, 27, Sidney, is in serious condition at Memorial Hospital after his car plowed into the back end of a loaded Butane truck trailer. Charges of second offense drunk driving and driving under suspension were filed this morning against Volner by County Attorney Pat Heaton Jr. Volner was on six month suspension for a drunk driving conviction on March 29. The accident occurred at 8 p.m. Saturday night a half mile east of Sidney at the intersection of Highways 19 and 30. The 1962 Kenworth semi towing a Butane trailer was east bound when struck from behind by the Volner car. The truck driver, James S Tromsland, 35, Blunt, SD, complained of a stiff neck but was not hospitalized. Damages to the rear of the truck were estimated at $3,000.

Fire crews busy as grass fires and auto blaze hit Sidney
Sidney volunteers fought three grass fires and a car fire in days recent. A 1955 Buick owned by George Dietz of Sterling burned at 558 Keller Drive due to a short in wiring, causing about $50 damage. Another grass fire four miles east of Sidney along the highway was contained with no serious damage. Fire Chief Harvey Vizina warns that dry fall conditions heighten grass fire risk and urges caution with outdoor burning and cigarettes.

Services For Mrs Brothers On Wednesday
Majorie Ada Brothers 37 formerly of Sidney died unexpectedly Sunday at her Dix area home. An inquest was ordered by Kimball County Sheriff with findings pending. Funeral services set for 10 am Wednesday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with burial in Dix Cemetery. She was born November 10 1924 in Sidney and married Floyd Brothers April 25 1958. She leaves husband, mother Ada Duffy, three stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters. Her father preceded her in death August 13 this year.

Pioneer Broadwater Resident Caroline Shull Dies at 77
Caroline Shull, 77, a longtime Broadwater resident, died Friday in a Denver hospital after a long illness. Born July 13, 1885 in New Hampton Missouri, she married Harry W. Shull in 1908, when he opened a Broadwater drug store. She was a charter member of Broadwater Presbyterian Church and active in the Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Bridgeport C. E. Ss chapter. her husband died in 1948. Burial was in Broadwater. Funeral details were not provided.

Sioux Honors Safe Drivers at Area NSC Awards

All That Way Cyclist Hit At Dix After Long Journey
An 82 year old bicycle traveler from Portland Maine was struck on Highway 30 near Dix by a westbound 1962 Thunderbird driven by Wayne L Holmes of Minneapolis Minnesota. Ladd suffered multiple bruises and broken ribs but was reported in good condition. Holmes car sustained about 100 dollars in damage and the bicycle was a total loss.
