Sidney Whirlwind of Local Visits and Events

Nels and Olof Lindberg came from Lisco on Wednesday. Editor Wolfe from Lodgepole visited Sidney on Tuesday. Many locals traveled for business, auctions, and trips to St. Louis, Denver, and California. The town hosted a stock auction, a chicken pie supper raising $30, and a Bioscope exhibition at the Tobin.

Big Irrigation Project Proposed on North Platte

The secretary of the interior seeks permission to tap the North Platte just below the Sweetwater junction for a giant dam and reservoir plan. A 93 000 acre storage area would form with a 210 foot deep reservoir and a 1 250 000 dollar plant aiming to irrigate lands along the river. Plans include laterals to Nebraska lines and land withdrawals in Scott’s Bluff Banner and Cheyenne counties totaling about 100 000 acres, starting by December 31 1905 and completing in four years.

Nebraska irrigation study targets Pathfinder reservoir project

A Washington dispatch quotes Prof. Newell that work on western Nebraska irrigation projects is advancing rapidly and that a report will be issued soon. The Pathfinder reservoir on the Sweetwater river in Wyoming will span about 23 000 acres and irrigate extensive western Nebraska lands. The Interior Department has withdrawn 4 000,000 acres from disposal in the North Platte land district, a move begun to test land suitability for irrigation, though final status is unclear.

A list of local shippers of the week includes Gunderson and Mitchell sending two cars of cattle to South Omaha and A. Cohn shipping two cars of horses to St. Louis. R Kreuger sent two cars of hay to Denver, and W. S. Pomeroy moved a car of race horses to Kansas City. Chas. Olander, a prominent Potter precinct stockman, transacted business in town yesterday and paid his subscription a year ahead.
