Rites Held for Mrs. Hermine Manley of Sidney Area
Final rites were conducted for Mrs. Hermine Manley 66 former Sidney resident who died last Sunday in Orleans Nebraska. Services were at Gehrig Funeral Home and St Patrick’s Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Born 1883 in Rule Nebraska she lived in Axtell Kansas before marrying John B Manley in 1905. The couple had five sons and a daughter and moved to Sidney in 1939 due to illness. She later returned to Orleans to live with relatives and is survived by three granddaughters one sister and one brother.

Sidney police reported heavy damage from multiple crashes. Ern est Portum, 60, in a 1942 Plymouth and Henry Glanz, 59, in a 1935 Oldsmobile collided at Illinois and South Avenue. damages estimated at 200 and 360 dollars. A 1939 Ford driven by Harvey D. Hecker, 17, hit a 1937 Chevrolet pickup at 13th and Jackson. A Schuyler 1947 Ford struck a halted oil transport near the east overpass. Sheriff W. W. Schulz and Deputy Arnold Braasch investigated.

District Meeting Plans Cheyenne Scouts October 20
The Cheyenne District, Boys Scouts of America, mapped plans for the annual meeting at a Tuesday night session in the I O O F Hall basement. The district meeting set for Thursday October 20 will have a location announced later. Rae Jones, district chairman, said 27 attended and discussed the scouters roundup the training program and other events for the coming year. All troops and packs have opened their meetings for the year.

Change Planned in Cornhusker County Government Program
County officials will alter the conduct of the Cornhusker Boys and Girls County Government this year. L. M. Clinton serves as temporary chair for forming a county committee to oversee the program. Warren E. Baker sought a meeting of interested parties, but a conflict with Sidney high postponed plans. Dates will be announced later and published in The Telegraph. The program aims to expand county government instruction to high school juniors, following a 1948 expansion and last year’s success sponsored by the American Legion.

Man uproots street meter in Kansas City alley theft
Merle E Faulkner 22 of Frankfort Kansas uprooted a meter in front of Joe A Gibson Inc garage at 3 AM Tuesday. Patrolman Bill Rezac spotted him with the meter as Faulkner carried it toward Taylor Hospital and into an alley. He was jailed briefly then held for grand larceny charges and pleaded guilty in county court.

Wildcat Test Well Planned Near Kimball
Texas operators Neff and Choate announce the Rodman No. 1 wildcat near Kimball County Nebraska. The 5000 foot test will drill 660 feet from the Section 24 lines in Kimball County with drilling to start before October 20 and three more wildcat wells planned, all to be completed by January 1, 1950. Wheat Grass Production On Upgrade In Nebraska Farming
Intermediate Wheat Grass is being expanded at the Francis Egging farm east of Potter Nebraska. Five acres yielded about 250 pounds of seed per acre with harvest done via binder and thresher. Egging plans 30 more acres and expects several hundred pounds for sale at 75 cents per pound. Observers At Casper Await More Testing
In Casper Wyoming observers await more testing on the oil field prospects as reports question the Rogers Roberts Elsasser No 1 well in section 24 14n 50w near the Gurley area. The well yielded muddy water with light oil and gas but no commercial flow before it was plugged. Other wells in Ogallala Dakota tests were abandoned. Oil deals stir Sidney Alliance and Box Butte counties with plans for new wells and extensive seismograph work slated for spring next year.
