Hospital Bazaar Planned at Sidney Elks Club This Week

The Memorial Hospital Bazaar returns Thursday and Friday at the Sidney Elks Club main floor. The Hospital Auxiliary thanks Elks for use of the building and outlines future needs including laundry equipment, an X Ray tube, a sterilizer, and a nerve stimulator. Donations for rummage sale and coffee shop are invited with drop off times at the Elks Club or hospital kitchens.

Dalton Fall Festival kicks off with Bicentennial theme and parades

The 48th annual Dalton Fall Festival began with entry day exhibits in the school gym and a 7 30 pm football game between Dalton and Dix ending 8 8. Prizes were awarded in commercial organization and family divisions, with a Sweepstakes trophy for best overall. State Senator Robert Clark presented the Bicentennial Flag to the Dalton community.

Adjustment Board sued over Arlo Jones Agency variance

Four Sidney residents sue the Sidney Board of Adjustment over a temporary use permit for the Arlo Jones Agency. They argue the variance was improperly granted, the original council action was unlawful, and the sign and office violate zoning and procedural rules. They seek a court declaration that the variance is null and removal of the business and sign.

NRD hears dam cost estimates

The South Platte NRD hears preliminary design and construction costs for renovating the Oliver Reservoir dam. Estimated dam work tops 350 000 with riprap and face shaping, plus 250 000 for acquiring property. Financing may come from federal and state sources, with a local match likely over 100 000.

Writers workshop draws 40 at Nebraska Penhandlers event

More than 40 people attended an all day writing workshop in Sidney hosted by the Nebraska Penhandlers and the Sidney Adult Education Program. Speakers included William Hosokawa The Denver Post editor and educator on writing from an editor view. He outlined the Six C s of Writing and stressed editing authority.
