William Warfield the renowned American bass baritone will open the 1970 71 community concert series in Sidney on Tuesday November 3. The concert series membership drive starts September 28 led by Larry Pippitt with a three division chair setup. Funeral services for Floyd E. 47th Farmers Day Set for October 3 in Kimball

Kimball hosts the 47th Farmers Day on October 3 sponsored by the Retail Merchants Association of the Kimball Chamber of Commerce. Events begin October 2 with a Homecoming, parade at 10 a.m., a noon hamburger feed, band concert, and a Gymkhana at the fairgrounds. Highway Sign Change Renames I-80 Segment to N-27

Nebraska officials say three mile stretch from Oshkosh interchange to US 30 will become an extension of Nebraska Highway 27. Signing revisions started at the west junction of US 30 and N-27 and the east junction, plus on I-80 approaches. Re-signing to be completed later this month.

Reservoir Below Normal Rainfall Exposes Box Butte Bed

Record low water levels at Box Butte Reservoir due to 88 percent normal rainfall in the Panhandle. Data show irrigation withdrawals four times inflows, shrinking usable irrigation water from 17,139 acre feet on June 30 to 761 acre feet by August 31. Robert Bishop of the Water Resources Dept notes rainfall in the area has been far below typical for the year.

Eight New Oil Permits Issued by Nebraska Commission

The Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission issued eight drilling permits last week marking one of the year's most active periods. Five permits cover Kimball County sites including two wildcats and three field extensions, while three permits are in Red Willow with growing exploration interest evident.
