Solar heating unit attracts visitors to Nebraska farm

About 1 000 people toured the Paul Bornhoff farm eight miles south and three east of here over the weekend to view the region's first solar heating system. Solar Farm Industries plans to locate a Nebraska factory in Sidney, with partners including Joe Conrad of Colorado Springs and Dr Dan Ward of Colorado State University. The system, blending Kalwall panels with a storage chamber, could cut the Bornhoft home's last winter bill of over 1000 dollars to about 135 dollars, and may power heating for most of a typical house.

WNTC dean of students resigns amid workload and budget limits

Balmy weather in prospect for Nebraska summer

The Associated Press reports balmy weather as autumn begins in Nebraska with high pressure centered over Wyoming and Montana bringing cool dry air. A cold front yesterday brought 1.8 inches of rain at Norden, skies clear, and forecasters expect daytime highs in the 70s with possible light frost in western Nebraska Monday night.

Dalton Co op Wins Fall Festival Parade Honors

The Dalton Co op Association float featuring Swedish exchange student Goran Granstrom won both the sweepstakes and traveling trophy for best commercial entry during Dalton’s Fall Festival parade on a day with a large crowd. Tammy Miller portrayed the Statue of Liberty, and the event included kids entries horseback riders and a gymkhana among other highlights.

Home energy savings program eyed for Nebraskan homeowners

Trucker Looks On As Tanker Fire Hits Scottsbluff Depot

An explosion and fire at Slater Oil Co storage in Scottsbluff destroyed a Dix trucker Ron Marks said he backed a 8,000 gallon tanker into the depot and began attaching a ground strap when the first blast hit. The cab and rig were a total loss with about 55,000 dollars in value. Depot damages estimated at 30,000 to 50,000 dollars did not injure anyone.
