Petitions seek statewide gas tax vote in Nebraska
State officials in Lincoln are reviewing petitions handed in just before closing time to place a statewide vote on a seventh cent gas tax. The drives report 28 600 signatures, above the 28 397 required, with Cheyenne County signatures accounting for more than 5 percent of the governor’s race vote. Potter applies for federal matching funds to surface the main street linking the village to Highway 30. Four to five blocks of old mat would be paved. The county also seeks funds for oiling a three and a half mile county road north from Potter, costing about 65 000 dollars, with 580 vehicles daily including many oil industry trucks.

The Sidney High School Band Auxiliary announced the parade and afternoon competition of the Sidney Marching Band Festival are cancelled because few bands entered. Regional university band days at Wyoming Colorado and Nebraska reduced entries, with Wyoming hosting this weekend and Colorado next week. Bands scheduled to come will be invited to join the Sidney Alliance football game Saturday night and perform before or during the halt.

Identification Pending in Sidney Death of Detroit Man
Sheriff W. W. Schulz said he awaits documents from Michigan before positive ID of a man found dead in Sidney yesterday. The deceased, about 64, described as Henry Milne of East Detroit, was found ill and collapsed by a tree at 17th Avenue and Hickory Street, and taken to Gehrig & Son Funeral Home.
