Bankers in 11 western Nebraska counties release a crop report dated September 12 covering a 30 day observation. Corn stands at 48 percent of normal with Dawes as low as 1 percent and Scotts Bluff at 78 percent. Potatoes and tame hay at low levels. wheat largely cut. Winter wheat yield forecast under nine bushels per acre for the region. Barley and oats around 14 bushels. Scotts Bluff irrigated tracts outperform others. Cheyenne counts behind neighboring districts due to failed winter wheat and unusual summer weather. Overall western Nebraska wheat yield expected to be slightly less than half normal.

In its third week in the new building Sidney High School reports record enrollment across all grades. The senior class leads with William Swain as president and Thelma Brewer as vice president. Juniors elect Earl Masse, Thomas Daniel and Robert Bartlett to their offices, sophomores choose Bessie Hinek, Harry Boham and Gordon Tobin, and freshmen name Maurice Walden chair. The enlarged curriculum attracts post graduate aim with sixteen Y G. students taking extra classes.

Blaine C. Grabill was sworn in as county treasurer of Cheyenne County after the Hanson Audit report was read and approved by the board. His appointment fills the unexpired term of Ernest H. Biggs. bond of 120000 was approved. The board ruled deposits in two failed banks will not fall on the new treasurer. Grabill plans to keep Rupert Campbell and Emily Gould as assistants. He is a Sidney lifelong resident with broad local knowledge.
