Wheat Growers chief: farmers snubbed by Ford policy

Bayard AP Frank Johansen president of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association says the Ford administration is giving wheat farmers the cold shoulder amid grain sales to Russia. Frontier weighs changes to Panhandle air service

Frontier Airline officials will meet in Denver to review Sidney and Panhandle air service. Bicentennial Caravan Display Moves to Jackson Street Sidney

The Sidney Bicentennial Commission announced a change for the Armed Forces Bicentennial Caravan display. Four military service vans will be shown on Jackson Street between 10th and 11th Avenues between the Elks Club and the Cheyenne County Court House. Viewing runs 3 pm to 8 pm with music from the Ninth Grade Band and Sidney Senior High Chorus starting at 1 30 pm.

Water slurry project prompts Nebraska Aquifer concerns

A Nebraska official warns Madison Limestone water in the far northwest could not be used for drinking irrigation or municipal needs. The Madison water in Wyoming is shallower and of better quality but Nebraska tests show high salinity, 50 000 ppm total dissolved solids, and temperatures around 186 degrees Fahrenheit, making it unsuitable for irrigation or human consumption.

Sidney High Senior Sharon Levin Named National Merit Semifinalist

Sidney High School principal George Hfinn announced Sharon Levin, a senior, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist. She is among about 15,000 semifinalists nationwide competing for roughly 3,800 scholarships to be awarded next spring. in Nebraska 129 semifinalists remain in the running.

Living history plan announced by Sidney library

The Sidney Telegraph and Sidney Public Library announce a living history project to record residents memories of life in the past or present. Librarian R W Brown says recordings will be stored at the library and funded by a $200 Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben grant. The project aims to capture events from 1893 to modern times and is pitched as a Bicentennial community effort.

Weather forecast hints at scattered thundershowers

Cheyenne County readers urged to renew before Oct 1 to lock current rates

The Sidney Telegraph publisher Larry Boyer urged Cheyenne County subscribers to renew before Oct 1 to capture present rates even if their subscription expires later. In county rates rise to 16 dollars per year from 13, while out of county remains 16. Expirations between Oct 1 and Sept 3, 1976 can extend for a year at the current rate if done before month’s end.

Health service proposal draws Cheyenne County hearing

Cheyenne County Commissioners heard from Mrs LaVern Thomas and other residents about creating a county health service to assist the elderly and in home care. They asked for more information from state sources and agreed to study the idea while addressing county property sales procedures and other items.
