Oil Drilling Expands in Cheyenne County and Beyond

Two new drilling locations announced in Cheyenne County with No 1 A Hawkins in the Rhohlfing Field and No 1 A Arlington NE, plus Lamont Drilling Co. contract. A Stage Hill Field straddling Bunner Scotts Bluff line sees several wells active and a 400 barrel daily discovery. Nearby Mer Mor rill and Box Butte counties report rapid leasing as Toltek and Tom Wessels drill No 1 Hill in Morrill County and pursue six barrels per hour at the Bayard area.

Schnell Rites for Henry Schnell in Sidney

Funeral services are set for Friday afternoon at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Sidney for Henry Schnell 46 who died Monday at St John’s Hospital Rapid City S D. He suffered burns from a August 20 gas transport accident. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors follows. He was born December 26 1917 in Melbeta and survived by his widow Jeanne Wright and three children Lynn Lana and Bryan plus parents and many siblings.

Four Scottsbluff youths fined for gas station robbery

Four Scottsbluff youths were found guilty of robbery in a hearing before County Judge C W Smith on Tuesday. Each was fined 50 dollars and costs and ordered to pay 65 dollars total, including 16 25 to make up the stolen amount from Farmers Union Gas and Oil station in Dalton on Sept 9. Defendants are Bernard Escamilla 18 Alvaro Escamilla 19 of Gering Victor Escamilla and Julian Martinez 18 of Scottsbluff.

Sidney bid seeks federal manpower training school

State level support grows for a federal manpower training school in Sidney at the Sioux Army Depot. If approved the school would operate within the public school system, employ a superintendent and staff, and serve up to 350 trainees with ranges of courses. Local officials and an advisory committee back the plan as a boost to the regional economy and workforce retraining.

Exhibits Outstanding At Dalton Fall Festival

Exhibits set up at the Dalton High School Auditorium for Fall Festival impressed attendees this year despite hail and hardships. Panhandle Weather Forecast Generally Fair With Mild Temps

The Panhandle is forecast to be generally fair this afternoon tonight and Thursday with a low around 40 to 45 and a high near 80. The five day outlook shows temperatures averaging near or a few degrees above normal with daily changes, highs 75 to 80 and lows in the 40s, with scattered showers indicated toward the end of the week and again early next week.

Marathon executive visits Sidney after global oil work

Bob McMillan former district manager for Marathon Ohio visited Sidney on Tuesday. He had traveled to California and Wyoming on company business and was returning to Findlay headquarters. McMillan and family spent five years in Libya supervising an exploration program that yielded major oil discoveries in North Africa. Marathon is now a partner in two European refineries and has built a desert pipeline in North Africa.
