At the Nebraska state fair in Lincoln Cheyenne county earned the high prize for threshing winter wheat with James A. Sparks receiving the top honor. Pete Lenzen and H. S. Schaefer took third and fourth. The county also garnered 18 corn prizes, and officials expect strong showings in White Sap 90 day yellow dent 90 day white dent and other flint varieties. County agents Welton Courtwright Willey Johnson aided the exhibit which drew public inquiries about crops production prices and methods.

Gurley Man Injured Jumping From Tractor
William Kallhoff a Gurley district resident was seriously injured Thursday of last week when he jumped from a moving tractor to adjust plows. He lost his balance at the lever and cut a painful wound. He received first aid and Dr. Larson recommended hospital transfer to Grand Island.

Engineer and Fireman Escape Train Collision at Alliance
Engineer Joe Boden and Fireman J Clark of the Burlington route had a narrow escape at Alliance when two loaded coal cars crashed into their engine’s rear, smashing the cab. The cars broke away from a freight train as the enginemen stood in a switch engine nearby. They jumped just before impact and escaped injury.

Cheyenne County sent five 4-H members to the Nebraska state fair with two demonstration teams and a judging squad. Clifford Jones led the crop judging team to a state championship with first place, Adrian Brockelsby seventh, and Clifford Jones also earned a tenth ribbon. Louise Kurz Christena Kretz and Mrs Gertrude Nelson assisted, while teams demonstrated seed cord selection and dairy cow selection with notable preparation though no additional placements.

Four Saum Family Members Hurt In Ditch Crash Near Aurora
Four members of Claude Saum’s Lodge Pole family were injured when their Studebaker sedan veered into an 8 foot ditch near Aurora while en route to Lincoln. Maxine Saum, thrown through the windshield, suffered severe arm and leg injuries and remained in serious condition. Mrs Saum sustained hip and leg injuries. Mr Saum had facial cuts. Darlene had minor injuries. Passengers were freed from the wreck and taken to Aurora hospital. the family planned to move to Lincoln.
