An oil discovery is reported just over the county line in Kimball County near Potter. The No 1 Tolle on a farmout from The Ohio Oil Co yielded 2,700 feet of free oil and 370 feet of water in the J sand. Ohio reports progress on the No 1 Hedrick wildcat near Sidney as crews near 4,000 feet while casing is run to prevent cave-ins.

Wheat Show Final Program Plans Set This Week

Tonight at 7:30 the Dalton and Broadwater eight man football teams clash, a free program follows at nine. Judging starts Tuesday at eight, with the parade slated to begin at 10 30 am and possibly draw a large crowd.

Edward Julius Jones 81 of Potter died Sunday night at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after a weeklong illness. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm from First Lutheran Church Potter with burial in Potter Cemetery. Born Aug 11 1877 in Jefferson County Neb he married Mary Elizabeth Fisbeck at Fairbury Dec 9 1904. Survivors include wife three daughters three sons eight grandchildren three great grandchildren and a sister.

Production in Cheyenne County and Nebraska is forecast to rise about 50 percent over 1947 49 levels and 20 percent over last year boosting Cheyenne County income by an estimated three to four million dollars. Corn output could reach 285 million bushels the third largest Nebraskacrop on record with sorghum near 76 million bushels and oats at 52 million. Total feed grain tops 11 million tons, the largest in state history. Sugar beets soybeans and beans show gains with hay yield down slightly from last year while late crops incl potatoes and beans remain above 1957 figures. Loan rates for grain sorghums and soybeans are issued by the State ASC with Cheyenne County sorghum at 1.63 per cwt and soybeans at 1.97 per bushel.
