Heavier Burden Placed On Land Banks As Some Lenders Withdraw
Farmers face higher credit pressure as activity slows among some farm lenders. Thomas A Maxwell Jr, president of the Federal Land Bank of Omaha, told a regional conference that funds are being sought to meet agricultural needs across Iowa Nebraska South Dakota and Wyoming. He warned that rising bond costs push loan rates to six percent and that banks must absorb or pass on these increases. The meeting drew 100 managers and directors from 13 associations. 1967 will mark the Land Bank System’s 50th anniversary with the theme American Farmer Provider of Plenty. Loans exceeded 635 million by end July with projections toward 1 billion in 5 years.
