Marathon Oil unveils Maraflood patent for enhanced oil recovery
Marathon Oil Co introduces a new crude oil recovery method named Maraflood. Tests show it outperforms waterflooding as a secondary recovery method and may extend to tertiary recovery in depleted fields. Developed at Denver Research Center, the process injects a water containing soluble oil or mic roemulsion, followed by displacing fluids to push oil toward production wells. Field tests over four years prove technical success, with larger field tests needed to assess economic feasibility and potential value to Marathon and the industry in the Denver Julesburg Basin.
