Governor commends the Local Board of Heyenne County for securing the full Nebraska quota and executing War Department directions with perfection. He, and the War Department, express appreciation for the board’s fine work in mobilization. KEITH NEVILLE.
The Local Board reports industrial claims allowed by the District Board for bonafide farmers. These men, farming on a more or less extensive scale, are deemed essential to food production and exempt from military service. Named men include Frank A. Clark Alliance, James E. Booth Sunol, Ernest A. Johnson Leafdale, W. F. Kreuger Sidney, George J. Jurgens Gurley, Fred W. Johnston Dalton.

Two freight engines collided west of the Union Pacific depot when both attempted the same switch. A man riding in a box car was badly cut in the legs and transported to Cheyenne on a stretcher. Tracks remained blocked through the night as crews cleared the area.

Me and Mrs. Guy Ferry spent Sunday in Bridgeport by motorcycle. Dr. H. E. Mantor and wife visited Denver for two days. E. J. Sweet is now store keeper at Le Sever Lumber yards and Mrs. John Cox acts as bookkeeper in the office.
A fine rain Tuesday night was welcome and splendid but the wind and dust accompanying it could well have been left out.
M. W. Osborn received a carload of Reo Autos this week, with immediate delivery available for buyers. Miss Elsie Portz returns to typing in I. Kratz abstract office after a vacation to nurse a sprained knee.
Mrs Calfernia Miller is the guest of her daughter Mrs Guy Ferry. She spent the summer in York Nebraska and will spend the winter in Scottsbluff.
Howard Swaine led a group from the east to the Bentley tand Company this week and used the trip to renew acquaintance with his family, marking a notable social gathering.
Dr L E Booth died on September 9 in Los Angeles. He was the brother in law of Dr F C Beebe a former Sidney resident. Mrs Booth is a sister of Mrs Beebe and has visited Sidney.
Miss Loraine Wallick, Miss Helen Bassett and her guest Miss Lane, and Mrs Kenneth Bassett formed an auto party to Sterling Colorado Tuesday afternoon and were kept there all night by a storm.
Mrs Dick of Seattle visited Mrs L Wasum this week. She attended her father’s funeral in Iowa and is returning to Seattle. Her mother Mrs Marble accompanies her.
A police officer on Rose and Lincoln Highway was knocked unconscious Wednesday night after a driver failed to see him and ran over him. The incident left the officer injured while the driver continued, causing a hit and run concern at the intersection.
Fert Griffith is convalescing as satisfactorily as may be from a series of operations in an Omaha hospital. He won’t be home for some time but is anxious to see the “bunch” and Marion Handley.
A letter from Paul Borgquist places him and his family at the Multnomah hotel in Portland Oregon during a westward tour. The note records their pause on the journey as they travel through the region and observe local sights.
The Cheyenne County Trading Co held its annual Style Show at the opera house last Thursday with a Japanese tea garden decor. About 300 attended the afternoon show and around 600 for the evening performance with men and women modeling the latest gowns suits overcoats and accessories. An orchestra of five played as the manager P W Barker announced each garment and price. Models included Misses Hartway Grabil Kenney Radcliff Swatzlander and Mrs Oka McDougal for the ladies and George Brewer Joseph Daniels and Harry Bixby for the gentlemen. Voice sales by Mrs Ahrens and Professor Lewis complemented a night the firm credits to successful advertising and sales after the show.
Donald Livoni was rushed to Denver on Monday after an acute attack and underwent surgery. He is in stable condition and shows signs of rallying, with expectations to remain until danger passes. His wife remains hospitalized but is rapidly improving and hopes to be released by October.
Mr. McCann of Sidney has been engaged to operate the elevator at Huntsman Switch for five months. He is not an apprentice at this work but has done similar tasks before and should perform well.
Albert Larson visited relatives, the N. W. Olson family, and his parents in Turlock California before leaving Wednesday to enter the army in Gothenburg for the front.
Miss Ethel Hale was the guest of Miss Martha Greenlee early in the week. She travels from Superior Nebraska to take a teaching position in Ogden Utah.
Judge Chambers fined Gustav Gunderson fifty dollars for resisting an officer in Potter during a bootlegging case at Leafdale. U S Commissioner Oberfelder heard Charles McKee on anti government remarks, bond set at one thousand dollars for a North Platte Grand Jury appearance. A Union Pacific painter paid one hundred dollars in fines for distributing drinks. A soldier boy was taken from a train while stealing a ride and sent to camp. Local scene noted as a rough day with several minor offenses and grumbling about the feeding point.
A reception for the schoolteachers of Sidney is planned at the Christian church next Friday evening, September 14. The community is invited to attend to welcome the teachers, with a pleasing program arranged for the event.
Palisain peaches in bushel baskets arrive Saturday at the Red Cross Fruit Store. The quality and price are expected to attract quick sales, with shoppers urged to purchase early.
