Prison Association Defends Role in Parole Aid
The Nebraska Prison Association rejects claims it aided parole or leniency for prisoners. Its rule bars interference with trials and seeks only to aid discharged convicts with employment and guidance. The organization includes steady business leaders across the state. Battle of Beecher's Island marks thirty-ninth anniversary near Haigler with expected presence of survivors. The 1868 clash on the Arickaree and Republican rivers saw heavy casualties and one thousand Indians under Chief Roman Nose. The Beecher Island monument, erected in 1905, memorializes the fight and yearly reunions. Attorney General Thompson plans to travel to St. Louis to push action on the Lumber Trust issue.
