Prominent Nebraska merchant Romine arrested for fraud
James S. Romine formerly of Bridgeport and Mitchell, missing weeks, is jailed in Scotts Bluff County and to be taken to Mitchell. He faces charges of obtaining money under false pretenses with creditors including M. E. Smith & Co and the Kingman Implement Co. Romine left Nebraska after selling stock and buildings, then fled across states until captured in Worcester Massachusetts. He is 50, married, and once considered a trusted dealer in Chadron and surrounding towns.
