Aviation Course Director At Tech School Named
Maynard Meyers has been appointed director of airframe and power programs at Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School. Meyers brings decades of aviation experience from Douglas, American Gilsonite, Flying Tiger, and other firms, aiming to prepare students for FAA tests. The school plans extensive equipment, including a 1940 Beechcraft and jet engines, as students enroll for the Oct. 2 opening.

Ray Wills Dies After Long Illness In Potter Area
Oscar Ray Wills 81 died Saturday night at Memorial Hospital after a two year decline. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Potter with Rev. Walter J. Klipp of Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He farmed near Potter until 1951 retired then moved to Sidney in 1963. Surviving are his widow Louise Lueders Wills, four sons Willard Delmar Leslie Gilmore, a daughter Florence Haggard, a stepson Frank Matthes and stepdaughter Marie Roth, plus 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren and four brothers and one sister. Burial arrangements are by Gehrig and Son Funeral Home. The family designated the Lutheran Hour as a memorial.

Two MIGs Credited To Max Brestel
In Saigon the Air Force ruled that a Communist MIG shot at by Capt. Max C. Brestel on March 10 was actually downed by him. Brestel becomes the second Air Force pilot to shoot down two MIGs in one day, matching First Lieut. David B. Waldrop who did so on August 23.

Federal and Cheyenne County Historical Association records from 1870 to 1894 are microfilmed and placed on file at the Lindey Public Library in Sidney. The longhand post returns detail personnel, garrison activity, and engagements of infantry and cavalry units, with Col. Henry A. Morrow prominent among commanding officers. The first return dated October 31, 1870 and the last June 1, 1894 mark troop withdrawals.

Rabies Serum Given To Boy After Bite In Gurley
Leroy Ortivez a three year old of Gurley is receiving anti rabies serum after being bitten by a rabid rat. Dr J B Pankau of Dalton reports no ill effects and that 14 injections will be given over as many days. The rat was killed by playmates and sent to Lincoln for testing with a positive result. Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh urges avoidance of rat infested areas and ramped rat eradication programs across Cheyenne County.

ASC Announces Sept deadline for cost share cover crops
The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service reminds area farmers that September 15 is the deadline to apply for cost sharing on planting winter cover crops. Eligible crops include spring rye barley oats sudan and sorghum at 1.50 per acre. Protection from erosion requires the cover crop to be established this season and remain until April 1, 1968.

Cattle prices reached the $30 mark at The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion on Saturday. Some 365-435 lb steers brought $28.60 to $40 as the market topper. Fifty-eight heavier steers at 694 lb sold for $26.30. Heifers 400-450 lb topped at $26 to $26.50. Butcher cows sold from $15.10 to $16.50.

Punt Pass and Kick Contest Opens in Sidney
Boys eight through thirteen in the Sidney area are invited to join the seventh annual Punt Pass and Kick competition. Gibson Ford-Mercury will award 18 trophies to the top three in six age groups. Local winners advance to zone district and area rounds, with 2,160 progressing to district and 228 to area competitions in 16 NFL cities. The six Western and Eastern NFL-Area champions meet in San Francisco and Philadelphia, then finalists travel to Washington and Miami for the national finals during the NFL playoff game.
