Weathered memories span half a century in Sidney
Way Back When recounts West Central Nebraska notes from 70 and 65 years ago. Reports cover a misty fall Sunday, antelope hunts with no casualties, a jail break escape, a goring incident, local weddings, school openings, community gatherings, and town business. It preserves era details like labor day observances, civic events, and local personalities across Cedar Valley, Lodge Pole, and Sidney.

Sidney school enrollment rises as new term starts
The Sidney school board heard that enrollment opened at 1,907 students, up from 1,852 at the start of the 1955-56 term. Ten people including five from Cheyenne County became naturalized US citizens in North Platte, in a district court ceremony. A prank at the Sidney Police Station backfired when a later wiring reversal shocked a officer, and bread prices rose in Sidney with 20 ounce loaves up to 25 cents.
