Five-vehicle crash damages parade float and injures couple
A five vehicle collision on US Highway 385 two miles north of Gurley Nebraska involved a parade float towed by a truck driven by Dan Benzel. The float owned by the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary suffered extensive damage. Orvin Golden of Sidney and his wife were hospitalized for observation after injuries. The chain reaction began when a pickup driven by Mike Hartzler collided with float debris, then a station wagon driven by Hellen Bovaird struck the float, followed by a panel truck driven by Golden, and a station wagon towing a boat driven by John Fahey. Minor damage to Hartzler’s truck, moderate to Fahey’s boat, heavy damage to Golden and Bovaird vehicles, with the float expected to be ready for the Dalton parade.
