Red Cross auction and homefront notes reach Sidney

Sidney chapter plans a September 21 Red Cross auction on the Court House lawn led by Mrs. H. D. Moore with a quilt as a feature. Donations welcome. a 25 cent lunch will be served. Treasurer Leon Fine reports August receipts of 4462.30 and July cash flow of 4953.06.

County Council Hears Charge Against Man

The Council of Defense conducted an all day investigation into a complaint against Herman Kallhoff of Davison precinct for unpatriotic conduct. Witnesses described heated disputes over land and alleged pro Kaiser rhetoric. The committee publicly reproved Kallhoff, obtained an apology, and required a $200 thrift stamps purchase.

Belize Fire Destroys City Buildings

News from Tampa details a major Belize blaze on August 17 causing extensive damage in the capital of British Honduras. Governor W Hart Bennett was badly injured when a flagpole fell on him. The fire razed the post office courthouse library telegraph office barracks and several stores with losses around 400000.
