Points to Remember in Making Silage

Agricultural notes advise that corn for silage is ready when kernels are deeply dented and beginning to glaze. Cut lengths: three quarters inch for good moisture, half inch if fairly dry. Efficient loading uses two handlers up and one to arrange bundles, reducing unloading time by about 40 percent. When loading green corn, align front and rear butts opposite for center unloading. Silo packing should be tight to exclude air.
