Leslie Proctor a 23 year old Scottsbluff contestant won permanent possession of the gold cup by taking a third consecutive year at the model plane meet sponsored by the Sidney Volunteer Firemen. His time was five minutes ten seconds while Robert Duis of Sidney clocked four minutes thirty seconds though his plane stayed airborne longer than twelve minutes.

Cheyenne County treasurer H Stevens announces seven thousand licenses will expire this week and must be renewed. If your license is due it expires now and cannot be renewed until Monday Sept 8. Renewal costs 2 dollars for two years. Pink licenses expire two years after issuance and can be renewed up to the new issue for 25 cents if not more than sixty days past due. Nebraska licenses statewide also expiring, pink ones only renew during this week.

Chappell Mother Is Given Son's Medals
Mrs. T. Caroline Swanson of Chappell received multiple decorations at Lowry Field on behalf of her son, Sgt. Max Swanson, who died while serving with the 20th Air Force in the Pacific. Col. R. Jack Beam presented the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Medal with Bronze Star, Pacific Theater ribbon with Bronze Battle Star, and the air crew member badge, as her son Bob and daughter Jane looked on.

Testimony Ends In Potato Marketing Hearing For Two States
Federal officials completed a two day hearing to decide if a potato grade and size marketing agreement should be submitted to growers and handlers in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming for referendum under the 1937 Agricultural Marketing Act. If the record supports need, a representative committee would administer the agreement and aim for orderly marketing to boost grower returns. The analysis may take 30 to 60 days before final vote thresholds require two thirds of area growers and majority of handlers to approve. Frerichs Rites Held After Farm Fire Tragedy
Funeral services for Mrs. George Frerichs, 37, were held at Weyerts Lutheran Church in Weyerts and Oshkosh on Saturday after she died Tuesday night in a car crash while aiding a house fire at her farm. The blaze, likely started by defective wiring on the second floor, destroyed the home and contents except downstairs furniture. Gehrig Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.

Potter Lions fund drives Iron Lung support after death
A $37.50 check to Cheyenne County Iron Lung Fund reached H D Stirling as Lions Club Lung Committee chairman. The donation followed the death of two year old Dickie Carlson who suffocated at the Carlson farm. The Carlsons requested no flowers and asked gifts to the iron lung fund. The Potter Lions sent the money to Stirling after collecting from the community. Earlier, a $750 check for a mobile power unit was sent to Stirling, with the Potter club raising the full amount after Sidney committee appealed.

Rites Set for Matt Hemmer of Sidney at St Patrick's
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at nine at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney for Matt Hemmer 79 a longtime resident who died Saturday morning from a heart attack. He was born in Dubuque Iowa July 13 1868 and moved to Sidney in 1908. Survivors include his wife nine children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery with Gehrig Funeral Home directing.

A market survey of wheat receipts at Omaha shows 49 cars of smutty grain received between July 1 and August 16, 1947 from 30 Nebraska points. Most came from eastern and western counties. seed treatment has reduced smut but more treatment is needed before fall planting.
