Yanks to Quit Germany Soon Move Likely Before October
Washington August 29 The American army will be brought home from Germany immediately after ratification of the peace treaty. The senate is expected to act soon and this may permit moving out before October 1. Evacuation orders will be sent to Coblenz after the senate acts, with preliminary removals possibly starting immediately. This ends the four year and six month war with Germany, as occupation forces have been reduced to under 12,000. Germany owes the U S over 250 million for troop maintenance. President Harding is pleased with the treaty results seen as a satisfactory settlement and disentangling the U S from European affairs while keeping allied status.
