Fire Department Wins Council Support for Upgrades
The City Fire Department gained council backing for exclusive use of the fire house and removal of non department items. An ordinance to fine drivers who jump ahead of fire trucks was framed, and firefighters were to be sworn in as municipal police to enforce regulations. The council approved a fire house zone to prohibit parking, hose racks, lockers, and post-fire maintenance funding. A fire practice system, helmets, slicker uniforms, and new lockers were ordered, with improved access via a dedicated telephone at the entrance. The first man learns fire location through central, which alerts the light plant and blows the whistle. Fire Wardens Sol Willis and Frank Nolan are advancing fire trap cleanups.
