Federal land to be bid for oil and gas rights at Sioux Army Depot

The federal government will auction about 5000 acres of former Sioux Army Depot land near Sidney on December 15. Nine parcels in the southwest depot area will be leased with royalties of 12 to 25 percent on oil and 12 1/2 to 16 2/3 percent on gas. Officials say the action may spur further leasing if production proves viable, though long-held rights and earlier drilling history weigh on expectations.

Quality Wells Near Sidney Yield Gas and Oil

Three wells near Sidney yield strong gas production with two in unusual cases. One replacement well tested over a million cubic feet of gas daily and about 30 barrels of oil, operated by C. W. Hughes. Another new well nearby, drilled in the same vicinity, should produce a similar volume with R. P. Sheets involved.

Wells to be offset as Oil Properties drills in Nebraska counties

Oil Properties plans workovers and offset wells after a 60 barrel daily old well was plugged. With oil around 12.46 dollars a barrel the venture seen as feasible officials say. Three rigs at Kimball County and one in Morrill County drill as permits issued in Cheyenne Kimball Banner. Tests near Dalton Buffalo Bend and a Morrill County site north of Dalton planned.

Pony Express Monument Dedicated Near Chappell

Chappell will dedicate the Pony Express Monument and Recreation Area Sunday at 2 p.m. Rep. Virginia Smith will give the dedicatory address. A time capsule will be sealed at the base, and school children will release helium balloons with notes. The event marks Chappell’s Bicentennial project.

Sidney City Council approves salary raises and traffic signal fix

The Sidney council adopted a resolution raising mayoral pay to 75 dollars monthly and councilmen to 50 dollars, effective immediately, also addressing a red flashing light at 11th and Illinois by restoring a standard green yellow red cycle. Other actions include fencing for Legion Park tennis courts, funding camp utilities, delaying demolition bids, cleaning near 23rd Avenue, establishing paving district 116, creating Sewer District No 45 with MC Schaff & Associates, and bidding plans for the district.

Hunger Walk Set for Nov 7 in Sidney

The annual Hunger Walk sponsored by local churches in Sidney takes place Sunday November 7 at 1 30 pm. A 10 mile route runs from the south end of 19th Avenue along I 80 to Breakneck Hill and back with refreshments at the end.
