Paving on 4 1/2 mile Egging Road from U S Highway 85 to Egging Cab Cam south of Gurley has started. Missouri Valley Construction Company of Grand Island won a $56 340 bid approved by Cheyenne County Commissioners. The asphaltic road, the county’s first, should appear on future gravel roads as work progresses despite warm weather limits and wind delays. Missouri Valley plans additional work on Highway 19 south of Sidney to add a raised surface on the curve to prevent accidents.

Feed Grain Cutback Is Requested
Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman urged farmers to cut feed grain production next year by leaving 30 million acres of corn and sorghum unplanted, up from 20 million this year. The plan offers price support loans and payments for leaving 20 to 50 percent of feed grain acreage out, aligning with a wheat group acreage cut of 13 percent. Projections show payments near 1.3 billion dollars for next year, versus about one billion in 1967.

Washington A bill to authorize partial payments to wheat producers in advance of harvest was approved by the House Agriculture Committee on a 22-7 vote. Rep. The State Highway Department will bank the curve on Highway 19 south of Sidney. Missouri Valley Construction Co will perform the work using an asphaltic mix plant already on the Egging road project. The curve will be super elevated raising the high side by one to two feet to align with city route 19. The project follows prior safety steps including vibra warning strips slow signs ditch filling and a flashing light. Banking is intended as the final corrective measure. the work will take one day.

Three Sidney youths charged in Gurley burglary
Three juveniles from Sidney face charges in Juvenile Court for the Tuesday night burglary of the Gurley Oil Company. Brumbaugh reports four cases of shotgun shells valued at about $200 were stolen after a rear window was unlatched. no damage or other items were taken.
