Recalcitrant Drivers Now Repeating In County Jail

Nebraska Safety Patrol reports two intoxicated drivers on Wednesday near Sidney. Harvey Vernon Blanton, 34, Hastings, jailed after fines for driving while intoxicated and procuring liquor for a minor. two hitchhikers rescued. Eddie Cordova, 24, Sidney, fined for DWI, liquor procurement, no license, jailed until fines paid and sentence served.

Explosion at Huntsman plant blamed on human error

Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. blamed human error for an explosion and fire at the Huntsman gas plant last Monday. A valve repair and failure to inspect equipment led to gas escaping into the engine room. ignition source remains unknown. Two men were burned. Kenneth Keith died at 27, and Jack Riley, 25, survived with serious burns. Plant shutdown did not affect service to Sidney or nearby customers.

VFW Poppy Sale Planned for November 7

Porter Mc Guver Post discussed the annual Buddy Poppy Day set for Saturday November 7 at the Post Home. Marion Whitaker led the Poppy Day effort with auxiliary partners. A food stand at Cheyenne County Fair was proposed pending Fair Board approval. a special VFW meeting was called for Friday October 30 at 5 30 p m at the Post Home.

Phil Etherton Rites Pending

Funeral services are pending for Philip E. Etherton 78 who died at Memorial Hospital after two days of hospitalization. He lived in Sidney 47 years and worked as a Union Pacific car inspector until retirement in 1954. Born July 11 1886 in Roca Nebraska he married Ethel Graves in 1912. Surviving are his widow two sons two daughters and four grandchildren with two sons in the U S Air Force serving abroad. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a son.

Woman Dies In Chappell Crash. Driver Faces Homicide Charge

Santana Flores of Ovid Colorado was charged with motor vehicle homicide in county court for the death of Virginia Rios near Chappell six miles west of town. Flores pleaded not guilty with a hearing set for October 27 and bond at $2000. he fled the scene after the crash, later seeking help, while Rios lay dead in the vehicle.

Memorial to Hoover Scheduled at Sioux Army Depot

Memorial services for former President Herbert Hoover will be held at Sioux Army Depot on Sunday in front of the Headquarters Building. Hoover will be buried in West Branch, Iowa, with a 21 minute gun salute at noon and a 4 pm retreat followed by a 50 gun salute to the Union. Four Generations Admitted To Memorial Hospital

Four generations of the Rezac family were admitted to Memorial Hospital over a week. Five-year-old Bobbie had a tonsillectomy, grandfather Bill came in for x-rays, and later Don and great‑grandfather Joe were both admitted for surgery.

Kenneth Ray Keith 27 died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital. Services were held in North Platte at First Lutheran Church with Rev Slice. burial planned there. Keith, born March 10 1937 in North Platte, married Lois Mae Thompson in 1955. Survived by wife, two daughters, parents, and three brothers. He had worked in Gurley and Sidney and for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company.

Frontier Airlines reveals new schedule effective Sunday
