Alliance city council approved perpetual rights to the Army sewage disposal system added to the municipal network. The base used the city lake, and a mile of 18 inch pipe linking two more lakes increased capacity. City paid 2500 dollars as its share of land condemnation.
Bridgeport W C Wells itinerant laborer dies at Dalton hospital after falling from rear of pickup near R E McConnell farm north of Dalton. Driver Lloyd Dorsey Minesville and companions Gene Foster Deerfield and Roy Case unaware Wells had fallen until arriving in Dalton. Sheriff notified as news spreads of fatal accident. Kimball and Banner counties plan part time veteran service officer to aid War II veterans with disability, schooling and insurance. levy debated. Commissions form committees to coordinate with county officials.
After a year long campaign the Kimball Lions Club raised 900 toward the lung cost of 1300. Kimball county commissioners subscribed 750 to cover the lung and a trailer. The iron lung from American Hospital Supply of Chicago is in a local store window. Dr C J Manganaro proposed the purchase to the Lions Club.
County Chairman Glenn Spearow calls workers to a city auditorium meeting on Wednesday Oct 24 at 8 pm to plan the Victory Bond drive and issue supplies The drive quotas are listed for precincts and towns and include Brownson 11508 and Lodgepole 53700 with others. Nebraska aims for 40 million dollars in Victory Bond sales statewide and Cheyenne county 377000 toward the goal.
Union Pacific freight conductors Earl Page of Cheyenne and C. C. McGrew of North Platte were injured Friday. Page suffered severe shock and bruises after stepping into a motor car in Sidney yards and was treated at Roche Hospital before release. McGrew lost two fingers in a hunting accident while chasing a wounded pheasant and was treated at Taylor Hospital.
The annual Cheyenne County 4-H Achievement Banquet will be held Friday October 26 at 7 p m in the basement of the Methodist Church Sidney. All 4-H members who completed projects their parents and leaders are invited. A covered dish dinner will be followed by music and entertainment by 4-H members and leaders.
The Telegraph will publish a series next month focusing on small plants that employ locals and bolster Sidney’s economy. A representative will visit owners to tour facilities and report concise, engaging stories to help readers appreciate local industry and attract more such plants.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o clock from The Gehrig Funeral Home for William Deady 82 who died Friday night in a local hospital Dr W T Kahse will be in charge of the last rites He was a native of De Kalb Mo and came to Sidney 36 years ago Survivors include two sisters Mrs Mary Reardon Mahepac N Y and Mrs Margaret Geotch Minnesota He was a great uncle to Frances Charles and Dallas Hade of Sidney and Mrs Deoma Bartin of Big Springs He had been seriously ill for only a couple of weeks prior to his death
Melvin Horn announces Horn Motor Co. will handle Packard cars in the region. A 1946 Packard will be shown in Chicago on November 2 with dealers attending regional meetings to learn sales and production plans. Prices are not yet determined but will be set before public release.
State patrolmen and city and county officers pressed a drive against a wave of careless driving. Several defendants appeared before County Judge Robert A. Barlow including Ronald Coyle, fined ten dollars and costs for speeding after a stop on Highway No 30 west of Sidney. Others, from California and New York, faced reckless driving and related charges with fines ranging from ten to twenty five dollars. Authorities vowed to continue the crackdown and haul violators into court.
The city of Sidney invites sealed bids for machinery equipment and labor to extend the municipal electrical system. Proposals due by 7 p.m. November 16, 1945, cover a diesel generating unit with 1600 hp, 2400 volt generator, switchboard conversions, coal to oil boiler changes, capacitors, power house work, and removal of three steam engines. Estimated totals range from 134,550 to 148,777 dollars, depending on engine class. Plans are on file with the city clerk and engineers in Lincoln.
A. M Webb 73 of Bridgeport and former Bayard police chief dies Saturday in a Scottsbluff hospital after two weeks of illness. He served 18 years as Morrill county sheriff over five terms, his current term due to expire in 1947. Webb came from Council Bluffs in 1917 and led Bayard police for a decade before his first sheriff term. Judge C G Perry and others praised his fearless service across western Nebraska. Rev Howard Osborne led funeral services in Bridgeport with Sheriff W W Schultz in attendance.
Teachers will resume the sixth district conventions on Friday October 26 with sessions at Scottsbluff and Alliance. Bus iness includes district officer elections and House of Delegates representation to meet December 7 and 8 in Lincoln. J E Shedd oversees the Scottsbluff meeting as attendance is expected to be large.
R A Goodall of Ogallala spoke at a Chamber of Commerce meeting on attracting small industry to Sidney. He outlined 11 urgent proposals for postwar planning, though full coverage will appear in Friday’s Telegraph. Goodall, a prominent local manufacturer, spoke to guide civic action.
Scottsbluff Bearcats topple Sidney 14 to 7 in the final seconds as Jim McWilliams returns a fumble for a score. The victory preserves Scottsbluff’s undefeated mark and Western Nebraska title hopes amid a capacity crowd and a tense, defensive battle.
Major Jerry Murray departed Sioux Ordnance Depot on Friday for separation. He spent most of his 37 months in the Army at the Depot, arriving in October 1942 as Transportation Officer and later serving as Control Officer until discharge in March 1944. Before service he worked in railroad business in Tulsa, Oklahoma, totaling 30 years, 23 with the Missouri and Arkansas line as traveling freight solicitor. Upon separation he will move to Kansas City as Assistant General Freight Agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at 330 Railway Exchange Building.
Ward Week sales return as wartime limits ease with expanded stocks and special prices. Montgomery Ward stores nationwide run the semi annual merchandising event through this week. Sidney store began last Wednesday and continues through week’s end with broader merchandise at reduced prices.
A three member postwar planning committee presented an eleven point urgent program to the Sidney Chamber of Commerce. It urges a new modern hotel and a viaduct across the Union Pacific tracks, plus sewage disposal facilities, hospital, rural planning and more. The report reflects views of fifty three chamber members from mailed questionnaires.
Cullen Wright of Omaha urged Rotary members at a city country club Farm ers Night to uphold fellowship as America’s best defense against rivalisms. He praised business and farming unity, optimism, and the nation’s strong cash, war bonds, and farm stocks compared with postwar excesses.
The first post war 1946 Ford will be shown October 26 at Joe A. Gibson Co. in Sidney. J. A. Heinlein announced the public showing, noting delays due to labor issues but inviting friends and customers to view Ford Motor Co.’s inaugural postwar model. V-8 Day is highlighted for the event.
Dr. Sylvester N. Berens a Seattle brain surgeon was hospitalized here over the weekend after a sudden illness in a hotel room Saturday night. He was en route to Omaha to address the Midwest Medical Clinic and may be released Monday. He traveled with his wife and another couple.
