District teachers to dedicate new North Ward high school

Sidney school officials announce formal dedication of the new senior high school and North Ward buildings for Monday October 26 with open house for inspection from 4 30 to 5 30 pm and again 9 00 to 10 00 pm. The program features the Sidney high school orchestra violist Julius W Cochran Poole and the Sidney string quintet.

Sidney to Host Three Day Nebraska Teachers Convention

About 1200 teachers from District Six will gather in Sidney for a three day Nebraska State Teachers Association convention October 28 to 30. N L Tyson of Mina tare leads arrangements as Sidney faculty and chamber plan local entertainment including a fanfare soiree, dance with a piece orchestra, and a dramatic Miss Misner performance. The football game Sidney vs Gering and lectures by national educational leaders will also highlight the event.

Bauman 15 Renamed Legion Commander At Meeting

H E Bauman was reelected Sidney American Legion commander as I L Pindell lost by one vote in a tight ballot. New officers named include Frank Pavlat first vice commander and Dr Dee L Abbott second vice commander. Plans for Armistice day dances and the Sidney Kimball football game were discussed. membership reached a high 228 under Bauman’s leadership and he praised the year’s work. Continued on page 8. Authorities in Bates county Missouri said Robert Swisher, a confessed forger who escaped Cheyenne county jail, will be tried in Butler for forgery after passing a bad check. accomplice Plew to be sent to Nebraska authorities. Swisher had been serving a two-year sentence and fled with Plew following a broad manhunt across the Midwest.

Royal Neighbors Meet Wednesday in City Auditorium

Over 300 Royal Neighbors gathered in Gidney for the annual district seven convention held in the afternoon and evening at the city auditorium. Election of all officers and the 1932 convention city were postponed to a later date due to current economic conditions affecting smaller towns. Sidney may again be awarded.

Membership Roll Call Of Red Cross To Be Held Soon

Cheyenne county Red Cross chapter will begin a membership roll call November 13, with Paul L. Martin as chairman. Workers visit homes and businesses to invite people to join for the coming year, highlighting the 50th anniversary year and nationwide Red Cross service.
