House moved by 26-wheeler through town for new Alco site
The 60-ton two-and-a-half story house from 616 Illinois St was moved by Star Vase Moving of Hershey to clear space for an Alco store. Owner Mark Crow and crew Jim Cheevers and Herb Tomlinson describe the process and note four Illinois Street houses will be relocated for a total of 7800 dollars.

Hannan hijacker shoots self after hostage drama

Spring Alco opening expected in town
The Alco store is planned to open early in spring. Land title problems delayed completion from last summer. Eight houses between 542 and 728 Illinois will be removed to make a 183 car parking lot. Four houses were bought and moved by Lawrence Brachtenbach. The site on Union Pacific land will host a 27 225 square foot store with a brick front and steel sides. A Scottsbluff contractor will level the ground and pour footings next week, and an Iowa contractor will construct the building.

Teachers give 300 to youth camp in Sidney
The Lodgepole Valley 4-H Youth Camp received a $300 donation from the Sidney Educators Association on Tuesday. The group budgets 300 annually for charity and this year chose the youth camp to benefit children. The camp serves 1001 to 690 people this year and faces a $500 kitchen equipment note. The camp is owned by the City of Sidney and run by a 12 member board.
