Cement Walk Contract Awarded East of Court House

The county board awarded the cement walk contract on the Court House side to Herman Bockstadter for 145 00. Meeting adjourned to December 3rd, 1900, with audit of several road and general claims and clerks instructed to issue warrants.

Commercial Club meeting endorses village action on litter law

The Commercial Club held its best attended weekly session at the Court House. Members urged the village trustees to submit a proposition to voters soon. The club also sought to instruct the Marshal to enforce litter on streets and filth in alleys. A typewriter was approved for club use and space searched for a club home. Treasurer’s report showed receipts and expenses with cash on hand noted.

Western Nebraska Teachers to Convene in Sidney Whole Weekend

The Western Nebraska Educational Association meets in Sidney on Friday and Saturday Oct 26 27 bringing top educators from North Platte Lexington Perkins County and state leaders. Delegates will attend sessions at the Tobin opera house with a Friday night declamatory contest featuring contestants from several towns and a Saturday night local contest to select a representative for the Sidney hosted event. Admission for general and reserved seats applies, tickets available at Luger's store.

Union Pacific reorganizes dispatch districts and names chiefs

The Cheyenne Tribune says Union Pacific divides Sidney Rawlins dispatching into five districts. T J Foley becomes chief dispatcher with headquarters in Cheyenne and oversees from Laramie to Rawlins. O W Brandt leads the western eastern and east middle districts. Charles U Blood is named yardsmaster succeeding Foley.

Local School Absent List and Visitors Noted for Week

Vera Poster and Martha Allery are absent from grade two this week while Earl James enters grade eight on Thursday. Fifth grade absences include Helen Oosterhoudt Larry Bangert Orlando Kulp Ruth Kelley and Fred Epps and Viola Chambers Willie Allery. Ray Lathrop returns to fourth grade after a week at home due to illness. Miss Lena Ottemaan departs to lead a school near Hemingsford. The W N E A event draws 150 to 200 visitors next Friday and Saturday with homestay hosts reporting to Miss Chase or Mr. Chambers and private rooms offering $1 per day for two guests.

Elevator erected for Aenean Springer near Omaha depot

Aenean Springer contracts with an Omaha firm to build an elevator near the Burlington depot. The main building measures 26 by 20 feet with a 51 foot cupola, plus a 20 foot north addition for office scales and engine room. A coal shed 100 feet long will also be constructed to support the operation, with completion expected in six weeks.

On the Bridge At Midnight dramatic production

A scenic drama titled On the Bridge At Midnight will appear Monday October 22. The play is a genuine drama with humor and unlikely melodrama, featuring a famous jack knife bridge reproduction in Chicago and thrilling engineering effects. The cast includes Reddy the mischievous urchin and lost child, a blind mother, and other memorable characters.

Democratic Address by Hous. P. Fleharty at Sidney Court House

Omaha politician Hous. P. Fleharty, sent by the Democratic State Committee, will address voters of Sidney and vicinity at the court house on Monday evening October 22 at 8 o'clock. He will discuss Nebraska campaign issues from a democratic viewpoint. The general public is invited.

Supt F B Miller and Supt Anderson with Vick Roy visited to review Burlington affairs while J H Clabaugh and W J Stuart worked the Wyoming division. Union Pacific land agent Allen reported strong land seeker turnout as yard capacity expands to meet rising traffic. Foreman Murphy repairs the round house turntable. Joseph Wier, longtime rancher, recalled early train runs. The Union Pacific reports about twenty percent earnings, with warnings on funding for Nebraska expansions. Local events include cement walk work by Herman Bockstadter and a new Sam Boggs dwelling. A Port Morgan merchant sought Cheyenne county potatoes. teachers urged attendance at the Western Nebraska Educational Association. Mary Sanders returned to Omaha with relatives, and Louis Brett had cattle shipped from Omaha and a hand operation. Two men cited for alcohol.
