All Frost Records in Valley Broken in 1886
The Gering Courier reports frost records for the North Platte valley have been broken with October 90, 1886 cited as the fastest killing frost by Dan D. Davis who has kept a date record. Light frosts fell in spots but vegetation remains green and tomatoes ripen in town gardens. Excess rainfall this fall disrupted beet hauling and potato digging, with mills eyeing possible half-time operations, while delayed frost benefits corn and may affect beet sugar content.
