Holly steps down as head of the Western Nebraska Technical Community College rail program amid a wider leadership shakeup. He plans to enter private industry, likely out of state, and cites several offers while declining to specify his next role.
Sidney receives a 142000 federal grant for a new pool and bathhouse with total cost 285000. City will cover about half. Voters approved 149500 bond for Sidney share. bids due Oct 24. The project replacing a 1940 pool, funded through Interior Department and Land and Water Conservation programs.
The Nebraska District Judges Association referred multiple judicial redistricting proposals to its executive committee. Key ideas include merging districts 7 10 and 18, combining districts 1 and 2, adding a fourth district 4 judge, merging districts 16 17 and 19, combining districts 20 and 12, and moving Merrick County from district 21 to 11. A salary rise from 36 500 to 40 000 for district judges was also discussed.

Eight Burlington Northern freight cars derailed on the west edge of Crete Nebraska early today. One car contained anhydrous ammonia. No injuries were reported.
